- The products and photos you add are stored only on your iPhone.
- The developer runs no server. Your records and photos are never sent to the developer.
- There is no account, no advertising and no usage analytics.
This page explains what information the iOS app Kigencho (“the app”) handles and what it does with it.
1. Information the app handles
The app handles the following information on your iPhone.
- Product records: product name, best-before or use-by date, storage place, category, the date you added it, how you added it (camera or manual entry), and whether you ate it or threw it away, with the date
- Product photos: a reduced copy of the image taken when you scan a label, or of a photo you choose
- Review notes: short comments written by AI from each month’s records
- Settings: whether notifications are on, the notification time, and how many days ahead to warn you
The app does not handle your name, email address, location or contacts.
2. Where the information is stored
All of this information is stored on your iPhone. The developer cannot see it. The app has no feature for syncing records with other devices.
If you back up your iPhone (to iCloud or to a computer), the app’s records are included in that backup. Backups are an Apple feature and are managed under your own Apple Account.
3. Camera and photos
The app uses the camera to read the date printed on a package. The camera image is turned into text on your iPhone and is not sent anywhere. When you add a product, the app keeps one reduced image from that moment as the product’s photo.
When you choose a photo yourself, the app uses the iOS photo picker. The app receives only the one photo you choose and cannot see the rest of your photo library.
4. AI processing
Reading dates and writing review notes use the Apple Intelligence model on your iPhone. The text read from a label and the monthly totals are given to this model, but the processing finishes on your iPhone and nothing is sent elsewhere.
5. Notifications
Reminders about products that expire soon and about the monthly review are notifications scheduled on your iPhone. No external server is involved. You can turn them off at any time in the app’s settings or in iOS Settings.
6. Sharing, advertising and analytics
The app does not share information with third parties. It shows no advertising. It contains no usage analytics tools and no third-party SDKs.
Only if you have allowed sharing in iOS Settings, Apple gives the developer download counts and crash information as statistics that do not identify you.
7. How long information is kept, and how to delete it
- Product records stay until you delete them. Records of products you ate or threw away also stay, because the monthly review uses them.
- The photo of a product you ate or threw away is deleted automatically 90 days after that date.
- You can delete products one at a time from the list or from the product screen. Deleted records and photos cannot be restored.
- Deleting the app from your iPhone removes all of its records, photos and settings.
8. Changes to this page
If the app’s features change in a way that affects how information is handled, this page will be rewritten and the date above will be updated.
